WACES Research Award Grants Call for Proposals *Update*: We are no longer accepting proposals for 2026. Proposals received are currently being reviewed and applicants can anticipate being notified by the end of April, 2026
Purpose: Fund innovative research studies related to counselor education and supervision. WACES will fund up to four proposals, of up to $500 each.
Application Criteria:
The Research Grants are open to both active professional and student members of WACES (Membership number will be required for submission).
Student researchers are especially encouraged to apply, since there are limited funds available for student research.
Individuals may submit only one proposal. Multiple submissions by any researcher (individually or as part of multiple research teams) will not be accepted.
Projects being considered for funding cannot already be completed by the time the award is announced.
Proposal Format: Proposals must adhere to the following requirements in order to be considered:
Follow the guidelines set forth in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed.) [No title page and abstract needed; the application form will serve as the title page.]
The written proposal must be no more than five pages(1” margins; 12-point font, double spaced), excluding the application form, references, and budget.
Upload one “blind” copy of the proposal and;
Upload one copy of the proposal with author identification must be submitted.
Evaluation Criteria: A panel of reviewers will evaluate research proposals using the following criteria:
The rationale for the proposed topic and its impact on counselor education and supervision is clearly stated and evidenced by the literature review.
The specific research methodology is clearly outlined and aligns with the proposed topic.
The budget is outlined and allocation of funds is clearly explained.
The ethical and cultural considerations of the proposed study are clearly outlined. (Note: If human subjects are involved in the proposed study, provide evidence of IRB approval or pending approval.)
The overall application follows APA 7 guidelines.
As a condition of the acceptance of the grant award, the researcher(s) is required to:
Submit a final report including a description of research activities and how funding is being or has been used.
The research(s) will include an acknowledgment of WACES financial support of the project in all reports, presentations, or publications related to the supported project.
Awardees are strongly encouraged to submit a proposal in presentation form and present the research results at a WACES or ACES conference when the next call is announced (the next call would be for the WACES 2026 conference).
Deadline for Submission: The deadline for submission is March 16, 2026, 11:59 PM (Pacific Time).
Maximum Amount Funded: WACES provides a maximum amount of $500 per grant that is awarded.
